Clive Cousins founded Canterbury Legal on a straightforward principle: legal advice should be clear, commercially sound and genuinely useful.
Since beginning practice in 1977, I’ve advised business owners, property investors and families across Christchurch through growth, succession, restructuring and risk. My work centres on property, trusts, asset protection and business structuring, but the real focus is always the person or enterprise behind the documents.
Over the decades I’ve seen markets shift, regulations evolve and economic cycles repeat.
Experience has taught me that steady judgement matters more than noise.
My role is to identify risk early, structure matters properly and ensure decisions are made with confidence.
Clients often come to me when the stakes are high, whether that involves major developments, long-term succession planning or protecting assets built over a lifetime. I take that responsibility seriously.
Canterbury Legal was built on straight talk and long-term relationships. That remains the standard I work to every day.
Outside work, I remain a loyal supporter of Canterbury rugby and value staying connected to the community that has supported our firm for so many years.
