Sam Welsh is a senior litigation lawyer with broad experience across a range of commercial disputes, including contractual terms, property, debt recovery, insurance claims, trusts and estates, and banking matters.
Sam appears regularly in the District Court and High Court of New Zealand and has advised clients through regulatory investigations and arbitral proceedings.
Sam’s career has taken him through international law firms in London and New Zealand before joining the Canterbury Legal Litigation Team in 2025. He grew up in Dunedin and studied at the University of Otago, graduating with an LLB and BA, and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court in 2012.
In Sam’s own words: “Before settling in Rolleston with my wife and a growing number of small children, I spent several years travelling as much as possible out of London. These days, my travels mostly consist of trips to the Rolleston Pak’nSave to keep the family fed. Outside of that, I have a deep love for cooking and sport — and I have high hopes for the Highlanders this season.”
